My Shinigami Secretary

My Shinigami Secretary is my entry for the Autoshoujo Cover Contest, where you use the AutoShoujo Random Title Generator to generate a random titles for manga, come up with a story to go along with one, and design the front and back covers for a volume of the book. In order to keep the story summary on the back short and to the point I had to leave out a lot of information about the characters that I thought was important. I’ve decided to put it on this page as a little additional information.

Morgan The Shinigami

Morgan the Shinigami takes his work seriously, but very little else. That’s why even though he is a rising star among his fellow Reapers, he’s not very particularly well liked by them. His sense of humor leans towards the juvenile and he enjoys the odd practical joke. He’s also quite short for a Death God. In fact, he’s quite short for most people, something he doesn’t find funny at all. The fact that he’s stuck acting as secretary for a mortal who towers over him is even more of a buzz kill.

Although disguised as an ordinary human, he still keeps the tools of his trade close at hand. His silver pocket watch contains an hourglass and a computer containing all data relevant to his target. The skeleton key on his left hand will unlock any door with his touch, since as long as he’s stuck in human form he can’t simply walk through walls as the Shinigami do. The scythe is merely an extension of himself and can be summoned forth at his command. Unfortunately, in his current condition it’s not so easy to call up the powers of a Reaper, so if he’s expecting trouble he usually keeps it stashed nearby.

Faye Greenwood

Faye Greenwood led a wild and wayward youth, even becoming the leader the city’s most feared gang. Her priorities changed after her parents died in a tragic accident; an accident believed to have been inadvertently caused by one of her own underlings. Her grandfather, millionaire CEO of Neuman Tech Industries, gave her a job hoping her leadership abilities could be put to good use. Even though she had cleaned up her act, he still had his doubts, so this was her only shot to prove herself as his successor.

Working her way up the corporate ladder takes time, but Faye never could stand the slow lane. Locating a reclusive scientist her grandfather desperately wants for one of his top level projects, whom she took it upon herself to recruit into the company. But the mysterious Professor Stone would only be in town for one day and grudgingly agreed to meet her, if only briefly Unfortunately, her secretary mixed up the day’s appointments and shes missed her big chance. Will she recover from this setback? What about the other appointment she missed without even knowing?

Cerberus

Cerberus from Scott Ryan on Vimeo.

Cerberus is a three-headed hell hound and Morgan’s immediate supervisor. He’s been dealing with souls since before Mortality Ltd. was established and the Shinigami were properly organized, so seen it all and knows trouble when he smells it. And, yes, Morgan is trouble, but Cerberus knows talent when he smells it, too. The disrespectful little squirt may be the best Reaper that’s ever worked for him and there’s no way he’s letting some stupid mortal’s mistake take away his star employee.

To keep Morgan on track, Cerberus likes to show up at awkward moments and remind him where his priorities are as well as to dish out sage - and often unwanted - advice. To avoid the attention a three-headed dog would naturally get, he intended to take on the form of a large but normal looking dog during his visits. Instead, and to Morgan’s unending amusement, he arrived in the form of an adorable puppy.
